I used to work at an insurance agency, and if there’s one thing I learned, it was this:

Make your comprehensive deductible $0.  WHY?

1) Comp claims will not (I repeat: will NOT) affect your insurance rate.

2) Changing from a $500 comp deductible to a $0 deductible will cost a few extra dollars, literally.

3) When your windshield cracks this winter, your insurance will get it replace at no cost to you. Your insurance won’t go up. You won’t pay anything extra.

I’m amazed–AMAZED–at how many people don’t know this. I’d have customers call in and say they needed to get it replaced, but their deductible was $500 or more. Since the replacement was a few hundred, they couldn’t claim it.

Call your agent, and see if I’m not right.
